The production team of KBS2’s weekend drama Our Golden Days has clarified the intention behind a controversial scene showing Jung Il Woo drinking at a construction site.

In the August 24 episode, Jung Il Woo’s character Ji Hyuk struggled with hardships and was seen taking on manual labor at a day-worker site.

During the scene, he drank makgeolli (Korean rice wine) and later collapsed, which sparked mixed reactions from viewers.

On August 27, the production team told Newsen, “That scene was filmed as a device to increase the drama’s tension. However, we worked hard to avoid glamorizing or justifying illegal acts. On the contrary, we wanted to indirectly express the dangers of drinking during work.”

They added, “Still, if viewers felt uncomfortable with that scene, we will continue to carefully consider our directing choices going forward. We sincerely apologize for any concern caused.”

The team further explained that Our Golden Days will continue to be produced as a family drama on public broadcasting, while keeping in mind its social impact.

Meanwhile, Our Golden Days airs every Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. KST on KBS2.
