Super Junior’s Kim Hee Chul cleared up a strange rumor in the most Kim Hee Chul way — with humor and honesty.
On the August 20 episode of MBC’s Radio Star (Not Calm Man special), guests Lee Se Dol, Kim Hee Chul, Chim Chak Man, and Napoli Mafia filled the studio with laughs and stories.
Talking about Super Junior’s 20th anniversary, Kim Hee Chul said, “I was able to come this far because of the fans who stayed with us for 20 years,” expressing deep thanks. He joked that people keep saying he’s “become kinder” since the comeback, then revealed he lost 5kg and entered what he calls his “visual prime.”

He also shared behind-the-scenes moments from his broadcasts and variety shows, including a warm story about Lee Soo Man: “I thought he was the benefactor of Super Junior’s 20th anniversary, so I gave him wine as a gift.” He even added a funny tidbit that the mother of Hatz to Heart’s Aina — who’s currently an MC on Music Core — is the same age as him.
Living up to his “idol legend” title, Kim Hee Chul brought out classic stories from his early days, teasing, “Back then, it was all about my face,” when recalling how he once beat actor Lee Joon Gi as “No.1 pretty boy.” He also admitted he was once the reason TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho broke up with a girlfriend, confessing to his once-mischievous past.
Then he addressed a bizarre dating rumor involving Epik High’s Mithra and ended it on the spot: “The truth is, we’re like brothers,” he laughed, making the studio crack up.
Kim Hee Chul also talked about working with Kang Ho Dong and becoming a “textbook example of network variety shows.” He wowed everyone with spot-on voice imitations of Kim Jung Min, Kim Min Jong, and Kim Jang Hoon — proving his “variety show cheat code” status.
He even joked about why he kept making NGs during kiss scenes with Uhm Hyun Kyung and Seo In Young in the sitcom Rainbow Romance: “I was like the lord of love, but when it came to approaching kiss scenes, I was weak,” he said, sending the studio into laughter.
Meanwhile, Radio Star airs every Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.
