Actor Jo Jung Suk is showing once again why his name alone can fill theaters.
His latest movie My Daughter is a Zombie, released on July 30, is already rewriting box office history. The film not only broke this year’s highest opening score but also set the all-time record for the biggest opening of a Korean comedy film.
According to the Korean Film Council on August 16, My Daughter is a Zombie has surpassed 4.04 million viewers, making it the biggest box office hit of the year so far.
It has also been officially invited to the Panorama section of the competition category at the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.
What drew audiences most was Jo Jung Suk himself. From Architecture 101 to My Love, My Bride, My Annoying Brother, Exit, Pilot, and now My Daughter is a Zombie, every project he touches turns into a hit. Fans and critics alike now call him not just a “trustworthy actor” but also the “undefeated summer box office cheat code.”

Jo Jung Suk first left a strong impression back in 2012 with Architecture 101, where his witty performance as “Nabddeuk” became unforgettable despite his limited screen time. He went on to show his range in My Love, My Bride and My Annoying Brother, playing roles that shifted seamlessly from comedy to drama, solidifying his reputation as an actor who can do it all.
In Exit (2019), Jo Jung Suk’s role as Yong Nam — an unemployed young man caught in a disaster — captured hearts nationwide. His natural stunts and immersive acting helped the movie attract 9.42 million viewers, making it one of the biggest hits of that year.
More recently, in last summer’s blockbuster Pilot, he pulled off a challenging dual role as both star pilot Han Jung Woo and his sister Han Jung Mi. His performance was so flawless that audiences said it was impossible to imagine anyone else playing those characters.
Step by step, Jo Jung Suk has built a career where quality, buzz, and box office success all come together. Viewers now believe that “a Jo Jung Suk film is always worth watching.”
Critics add that his sincerity and depth make even ordinary roles feel extraordinary — making audiences laugh, cry, and feel deeply connected to his characters. It’s no wonder fans are already eager to see what Jo Jung Suk will do next.
