Another touching story about Park Bo Gum has been revealed — and it's making fans love him even more!
On the July 19 episode of MBN’s Dongchimi, veteran actress Song Gwang Ja appeared and talked about how she began acting in her later years — and how she met Park Bo Gum while filming the hit Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines.
The episode's theme was “Why am I going through hardships in my later years?”, and Song Gwang Ja opened up about her unique journey.
She revealed that she was once a KBS announcer but had to retire during the IMF financial crisis after being included in the company’s restructuring list.
“Time passed, but I felt I needed to work again,” she shared. “One day, my son saw a job posting online and suggested I try acting.”
She explained how it all started: “I played a grandmother in a college graduation project. After that, I got small roles, appeared in short films and independent movies.”
Actress Kim Young Ok, who was also on the show, playfully joked, “No wonder I wasn’t getting indie roles. You’re my rival,” making everyone laugh.
Eventually, Song Gwang Ja was cast in When Life Gives You Tangerines as the “tall grandmother” who cares for the rice jar and rents a house to IU and Park Bo Gum’s characters.
She confessed, “There was so much dialect in the role that I secretly hoped I wouldn’t get cast,” causing laughter in the studio.
But the most heartwarming moment came when she spoke about Park Bo Gum.
“It was a winter scene, and after filming, Park Bo Gum came running toward me with a hot pack that was still warm,” she said with a smile. “He gave it to me. I was so thankful.”
She added, “The staff were also really kind to me. My daughter in Europe was thrilled. She said, ‘Mom, that’s so great!’ and even sent me a clip of myself on YouTube. I’m thankful to my son for helping me start a second life.”
Park Bo Gum’s thoughtful gesture, once again, proves why he’s known as one of the kindest stars in the industry.
