Fans are surprised to learn the real story behind Kihyun’s “cold” comment from ‘NO MERCY’ days

MONSTA X recently celebrated a major milestone with their 10th debut anniversary concert, ‘2025 MONSTA X CONNECT X’, held on July 20 at KSPO DOME in Seoul. T

he full group—Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M—looked back on their long journey, including some emotional (and hilarious) moments from their trainee days.

During the concert, the members were surprised with a heartfelt video from Starship Entertainment, featuring old trainee clips and highlights from their 10-year career.

While the montage touched many fans, Minhyuk jokingly said, “I wish they didn’t show the trainee videos,” getting a laugh from the crowd.

One moment that especially stood out was a comment from Kihyun during the Mnet survival show ‘NO MERCY’, which formed MONSTA X. Back then, Kihyun bluntly told I.M, “Go sit on the sofa,” a line that fans long believed was cold and dismissive.

However, I.M finally cleared the air, saying, “Honestly, ‘NO MERCY’ was never a bad memory for me. There’s a saying, ‘After hardship comes happiness.’ People misunderstood Kihyun hyung’s ‘go sit on the sofa’ comment, but he was actually being considerate.”

He added, "Back then, there was fried chicken in the living room. I was pretending to clean while checking out the situation, and Kihyun noticed. Like a tsundere, he told me to sit down.”

Hyungwon added with a smile, “The misunderstanding is finally cleared after 10 years.”

Fans were touched by the reveal, especially as it showed the close bond and hidden warmth between the members—something that might not have been obvious back during their intense debut days.

Meanwhile, MONSTA X is also gearing up for a highly-anticipated full-group comeback album, set to drop in early September.
