The final film of the late actress Kim Sae Ron has officially hit theaters—and despite strong competition, it's quietly finding an audience.
On June 1, the Korean Film Council reported that Guitar Man brought in 1,003 moviegoers the day before, placing 20th in box office rankings. Since its premiere on May 30, the film has drawn a total of 3,661 viewers.
While not a major blockbuster, Guitar Man is gaining attention for its emotional message and the fact that it marks Kim Sae Ron’s last film before her untimely passing in February.
She played Yoo Jin, a passionate keyboardist in the club band “Volcano”, delivering a performance that fans now see as deeply meaningful.

The movie tells the story of a genius guitarist who faces a tough life but finds hope through music and human connection. It’s a quiet, heartfelt journey filled with themes of loss, love, and healing.
Despite being released alongside big-name films like Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (which pulled in 164,550 viewers on the same day), and local hits like Hi Five (151,796 viewers) and Soju War (48,626 viewers), Guitar Man is steadily reaching those looking for something more emotional and reflective.
With the memory of Kim Sae Ron still fresh in many fans’ hearts, Guitar Man serves as both a tribute and a final chapter in her career—one that viewers are slowly, but sincerely, embracing.
