Yook Sung Jae surprised fans by revealing his unexpected “golden spoon” background — and it's all about fishing!

On the May 25 episode of TV CHOSUN's Heo Young Man's Food Travel, the former BTOB member joined veteran host Heo Young Man on a foodie trip to Chuncheon, where Sung Jae casually dropped a fun fact about his family history that left everyone stunned.

While visiting a restaurant near Chuncheon Lake, Sung Jae talked about his passion for fishing, saying, “I really like fishing. I prefer freshwater fishing, and I heard there are good spots around here too.”

When Heo Young Man asked if he eats what he catches, Sung Jae admitted, “No, I don’t eat freshwater fish. Don’t they usually smell kind of fishy? I’ve never eaten anything I caught.”

Their conversation turned to how often he travels now that he’s no longer active in a group. Sung Jae replied, “I still travel! I used to go on fishing trips with friends from idol groups like Boyfriend and Teen Top. Even if they’re not into fishing, I love it so much I drag them along!”

That’s when he revealed the jaw-dropping detail: “My grandfather used to run a fishing site. He was actually the first to import koi fish from Japan and farm them here. He even donated koi fish to the country.”

He added, “It started off as a koi fish farm and eventually became a fishing spot. So yeah… you could say I was born with a fishing golden spoon.”

Fans and viewers were left both impressed and amused, calling Sung Jae a true “fishing chaebol.” With his deep-rooted love for fishing and a surprising family legacy, it’s no wonder he’s so hooked! ?
