Virtual idol group PLAVE is turning heads again—this time in Japan! On May 22, it was revealed that PLAVE has been nominated for a main category award at the 2025 Music Awards Japan (MAJ), the country’s largest international music show.
MAJ is a huge event created to connect the world through music. It’s run by CEIPA (Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association) and backed by five major players in Japan’s music industry, including the Recording Industry Association of Japan and the Concert Promoters Association.
PLAVE was nominated in the “Best Song Asia” category for their title track “WAY 4 LUV” from their second mini album. This main category highlights songs that performed well across East and Southeast Asia. PLAVE is making headlines as the only virtual idol group nominated in the main category, proving their rising popularity and impact beyond Korea.
This year, MAJ features six main awards under the MAIN CATEGORY section:
- Song of the Year
- Artist of the Year
- New Artist of the Year
- Album of the Year
- Top Global Hit from Japan
- Best Song Asia
PLAVE stands alongside other big K-pop names in the main category list, including:
- Rosé, nominated for Song of the Year with “Apt.”
- aespa, also nominated for Best Song Asia with “Supernova”
The main ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. JST on May 22 and will be broadcast live on NHK and YouTube. Over 5,000 music industry experts voted, along with fans worldwide through Spotify, making the results even more exciting.
A day before the main event, the SUB CATEGORY winners were announced, with NewJeans winning Best K-Pop Song in Japan for their hit “Ditto.”
Meanwhile, PLAVE is getting ready to officially begin activities in Japan with their Japanese debut single “Kakurenbo (かくれんぼ)” dropping on June 16. They also plan to kick off an Asia tour this August, proving their status as global artists on the rise.
PLAVE is clearly on the move—and they're doing it in a big way.
