TWICE’s Jihyo recently shared her honest thoughts about the challenges she faces as the group’s leader, sparking interest and admiration from fans.
On December 4, the YouTube channel Narae-sik uploaded a video titled “TWICE’s Jihyo | I feel like being TWICE’s leader might take 5 years off my life… | TWICE’s contract renewal, new song tarot reading, and Jihyo’s campsite.” The video gave fans a glimpse into Jihyo's candid reflections on her journey as a leader and as a member of TWICE.
Jihyo expressed her hopes for the group’s upcoming comeback, saying,
“We’re coming back on December 6th. Since we’ve been around for a while, I worry, ‘Will the response be good?’ I really want to do well. Back in the day, just doing what we were told worked out well, so I wasn’t too ambitious.”
Reflecting on her early years, Jihyo, born in 1997, shared,
“I started as a trainee when I was 8 years old. At that time, I wanted to hang out with my friends, but honestly, now I have no regrets because everything has turned out so well. There were times I experienced burnout, especially during the contract renewal period. It was the first time for all of us, and I had been Jihyo of TWICE for 7 years. I started wondering what I, Park Jihyo, as an entertainer, should do moving forward. After all, you can’t be an idol for 20 or 30 years.”
Talking about the team’s contract renewal, Jihyo explained,
“From the start, most of us wanted to renew our contracts. On a personal level, the members talked a lot about their concerns. We even shared our thoughts with the company and asked them to work things out well. Just because we’re in the same group doesn’t mean I can take responsibility for someone else’s life. So we respected each other’s opinions, and the members’ deep attachment to the team played a big role.”
Jihyo also admitted she had considered stepping down as leader, but her dedication kept her in the role. She shared,
“When we first renewed our contracts, I considered stepping down as leader. But it’s just my personality—I couldn’t help it. In any group, there seems to be a need for someone to play the ‘bad guy.’ Not a mean person, but someone who can speak firmly. I used to think the leader didn’t do much, but lately, I’ve realized how wrong that was. Being the leader isn’t hard, but sometimes I feel like it could take 5 years off my life,” she joked, making everyone laugh.
Jihyo also gave fans a look into her relationships with the members, saying,
“Dahyun hardly talks. She doesn’t really like discussing her worries. Sana and I both have MBTI E, so we’re outgoing. We’re all close, but I talk to Jeongyeon the most. I’ve known her the longest, and we’re the same age. We’ve even pushed each other, slammed doors, and fought before, but I can’t remember why. I think it’s because we’re so close.”
She even shared her honest perspective on relationships, adding,
“If someone’s going to cheat, they’ll cheat anyway. You just leave them. I lose feelings immediately. I think if they’re going to cheat, it’s better to break up quickly before getting too attached. It’ll hurt, but what can you do? In the end, life is something you live alone.”
Fans are praising Jihyo for her candidness and strength as a leader, showing once again why she is a beloved member of TWICE!
