Park Jin Young has drawn attention for his character's growing identity crisis in tvN's "100 Days of Deception", as his struggle between his Korean roots and his position under Japanese colonial rule takes an emotional turn.

In episode 9, which aired on November 7, Park Jin Young's character Kim Tae Woong, also known as Sato Hideo, faced a difficult conflict after learning more about the actions of his adoptive father, Sato Shinichi, played by Jin Sun Kyu.

Sato Hideo was shocked to discover that his adoptive father had been involved in the killing of Koreans during the colonial period.

However, Sato Shinichi reminded him that he had enjoyed a comfortable and privileged life because of his position in the family.

The situation left Kim Tae Woong questioning his identity and the privileges he had received while other Koreans faced discrimination.

His frustration became more visible when he witnessed Japanese police mistreating Koreans. Although he intervened, the officers suddenly changed their attitude after learning that he was Sato Shinichi's adopted son.

The incident highlighted the painful difference between his Korean identity and the authority connected to his Japanese name.

Later, Sato Hideo showed a colder attitude toward those around him, suggesting that his inner conflict was beginning to affect his behavior.

During a tense exchange with Fukuda, played by Kim Joong Hee, he demanded to be addressed with greater respect.

"When addressing a superior's son, show some respect. It's not Hideo-kun, it's Sato-san. We're both dogs of Japan, so let's not provoke each other," he said.

His words reflected his growing bitterness toward the colonial system and his complicated position within it.

The emotional tension continued in his relationship with Lee Ga Kyung, played by Kim Yoo Jung.

As their circumstances became increasingly difficult, Lee Ga Kyung expressed her feelings for the person she knew as Kim Tae Woong.

She told him, "I liked you. The person named Kim Tae Woong."

However, his response revealed just how deeply his identity struggle had affected him.

"My name is Sato Hideo, not Kim Tae Woong," he replied firmly.

The exchange left their relationship uncertain, raising questions about whether he was rejecting his Korean identity or trying to protect himself from the painful reality surrounding him.

100 Days of Deception is a historical romance and espionage drama set during the Japanese colonial period. It follows characters whose personal relationships become complicated by political conflict and the Korean independence movement.

With Park Jin Young's character increasingly torn between his past and present identity, the drama continues to explore the emotional cost of living under colonial rule.

Attention is now turning to whether Kim Tae Woong will continue embracing his identity as Sato Hideo or eventually confront the truth about who he is.
