SHINee member Minho has publicly apologized following a fairness controversy surrounding his participation in the 2026 JTBC Seoul Marathon, announcing that he will not accept his recorded finish time.

On November 3, Minho shared a statement on social media addressing criticism over allegations that he received physical assistance from a pacemaker during the race.

“I apologize for disappointing many people during the marathon I participated in on November 1. Everything happened because of my shortcomings, and as someone who loves and values sports, I feel deeply ashamed,” he wrote.

Minho participated in the 2026 JTBC Seoul Marathon on November 1 at Sangam World Cup Park, completing the full 42.195 km course in 3 hours and 18 seconds.

The singer had been aiming for a sub-three-hour finish, which means completing a full marathon in under three hours. Although he missed the goal by just 18 seconds, his performance initially received praise.

Shortly after the race, Minho shared his experience on social media, writing, “Failed sub-3. 18 seconds. Still, such a valuable experience. This is why life is a marathon.”

However, his participation later became the subject of debate after a video circulated online appearing to show a man believed to be his pacemaker placing his fingers against Minho's waist and seemingly pushing him forward during the race.

The footage raised questions about whether Minho had received physical assistance, which could violate competition rules.

Under athletics regulations, runners are generally prohibited from receiving physical assistance, including being pushed or pulled by another person. Such actions may result in a warning or disqualification, depending on the circumstances.

As the discussion continued, Minho addressed the controversy directly and acknowledged his responsibility.

“I will be more careful to make sure something like this never happens again, and I will work hard to show a better side of myself,” he stated.

The SHINee member also made it clear that he would not recognize his marathon result following the controversy.

“I will not accept the result of this marathon either, and I will not forget the lesson I learned through this experience,” he wrote.

Minho concluded his statement by expressing respect for fellow runners who dedicate their time and effort to the sport.

“I want to express my respect to all the runners who work hard and put in countless hours of effort,” he added.

While Minho has personally rejected his recorded finish time, the report did not confirm whether race organizers had officially disqualified him or invalidated his result.

His apology comes two days after the marathon, with the singer promising to be more careful in future sporting events.
