Actress Shin Min Ah revealed that she had mixed feelings about joining the Disney+ series The Remarried Empress, admitting that she initially felt both worried and excited about the fantasy romance drama.
On November 3, Shin Min Ah attended the production press conference for The Remarried Empress at Conrad Seoul in Yeouido, where she shared why she decided to accept the role of Empress Navier despite her concerns.
The actress explained that the drama's unusual script caught her attention, but she was also unsure how the story would translate to the screen.
“It was a new kind of script, so I was curious. I had both worries and expectations about how it would turn out,” she said.
Despite her uncertainty, Shin Min Ah found the story interesting because it combined familiar themes with a different style of storytelling.
“The story itself felt familiar, so I thought it could become a new kind of drama. It was exciting, and I looked forward to showing a side of myself that viewers hadn't seen before. That expectation made me decide to join,” she explained.
Shin Min Ah also admitted that portraying Empress Navier came with its own challenges, particularly because the character needed to show elegance and dignity through her appearance.
“The world we created is very distinct. As an empress, I had to show a lot of dignity through my appearance, so there were uncomfortable moments and pressure,” she shared.
However, the actress said those challenges also made her excited about presenting a different image to viewers.
She added that filming in the drama's elaborate setting became a memorable experience.
“While acting on the set, I thought I might never get another chance to work in a world like this again. That's why it became a special memory,” she said.
Despite her initial concerns, Shin Min Ah expressed excitement about taking on a role unlike her previous characters.
Meanwhile, The Remarried Empress is a fantasy romance series following Empress Navier as she faces a major turning point in her royal marriage. The drama also stars Lee Jong Suk, Ju Ji Hoon, and Lee Se Young.
The Remarried Empress premiered on Disney+ on November 3.
