Chungha opened up about negative comments related to her age, including messages claiming that she is past her prime now that she has entered her 30s.
The singer discussed the topic during the September 2 broadcast of KBS Cool FM’s Gabi’s Super Radio.
The conversation began when Gabi mentioned social media reactions saying Chungha now gives off a more mature image. Chungha said she has noticed that her age has become a frequent topic online.
She explained, “I don’t really know what ‘mature woman’ means. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but it feels like the fact that I’m in my 30s keeps becoming viral content. Sometimes people say, ‘Chungha is already in her 30s?’ I kind of wish they would still think I’m in my 20s.”
When Gabi brought up posts saying Chungha’s 30s could become her new prime, the singer said she appreciates the positive attention but admitted that not every comment has been supportive.
Chungha shared, “Why can’t people just say ‘these days’? Why does it have to be about being in my 30s? I like my 30s too, but sometimes there are posts I don’t like. There are honestly comments saying things like, ‘She’s washed up,’ or ‘You’re in your 30s and you’ve done enough, so move aside.’”
Gabi immediately defended her, saying, “Why should I move aside? I’m going my own way too. Just pass by. Why should I have to move?”
Chungha said such comments affected her more when she was not feeling mentally strong, but she now tries not to focus on them.
She added, “Maybe it’s because of the image people have of being in your 30s. When I wasn’t in a good place mentally, I thought about things like that too, but I try not to care now. I think people are looking at my 30s positively, so I’m thankful.”
Rather than treating the discussion as a major conflict, Chungha spoke calmly about the mixed reactions she receives online. She emphasized that she is grateful for fans who continue to support her and view this stage of her career in a positive way.
