Actor Ryu Jun Yeol has explained why he decided to join Galaxy Corporation, the entertainment company that also represents G-Dragon, Taemin, Kim Jong Kook, and Song Kang Ho.
During an interview on September 1 following the conclusion of Netflix series Field Mouse, Ryu Jun Yeol said his growing interest in importing and producing films played a major role in his decision to leave UAA and sign with Galaxy Corporation.
Galaxy Corporation announced its exclusive contract with Ryu Jun Yeol in July, saying it planned to support his acting career as well as future content, global projects, AI, and intellectual property businesses.
Ryu Jun Yeol explained that after working on many Korean films, he became increasingly interested in what happens beyond acting.
He said, “As I worked on many Korean films, which I really like, I became interested in importing films and also in producing them.”
The actor shared that he has been attending film festivals, meeting people in the industry, and learning more about film distribution and production. According to Ryu Jun Yeol, he wanted an agency that could support those ambitions without requiring him to establish and manage his own company.
He explained, “There are parts of film production that are difficult for me to handle alone, and I felt I could receive active support through the agency.”
Ryu Jun Yeol also clarified that his move to Galaxy Corporation was not driven by a large financial offer, saying, “It is not true that I changed agencies after receiving a huge signing fee.”
His long-term interest appears to center on helping bring more films to audiences. Ryu Jun Yeol said he frequently visits theaters and sometimes watches several movies in one day, adding that attending film festivals has strengthened his desire to become involved in making and introducing films.
However, he said he currently has no strong plans to become a director.
Instead, Ryu Jun Yeol said, “I want to bring together good projects, ideas, and actors and create good work.”
He revealed that some related projects are already being explored, including possible film production and a YouTube channel introducing movies. He is also keeping other creative options open.
Ryu Jun Yeol said details about his future film importing or production projects are not yet ready to be announced, but he hopes to eventually speak publicly about his work not only as an actor but potentially as a producer as well.
For Ryu Jun Yeol, joining Galaxy Corporation appears to be part of a broader plan to expand his career beyond acting and become more involved in developing, producing, and introducing films to audiences.
