MAMAMOO’s Wheein became emotional while looking back on a difficult period when the group was at the height of its activities, revealing that the intense schedule once made her feel like she wanted to quit.
On August 31, Wheein held a Weverse Live after MAMAMOO’s concert in Kent, Washington, as part of the group’s 4WARD world tour.
During the broadcast, Wheein reflected on how differently she now views MAMAMOO’s busiest years. She admitted that despite the group’s success, the demanding schedule was sometimes difficult to handle.
Wheein said, “To be honest, there were times when I really hated it because it was so hard.”
She explained that constantly moving from one schedule to another left little time to appreciate what was happening around her.
However, Wheein said her feelings have changed with time. Looking back now, she remembers not only the exhaustion but also how much she enjoyed those years.
She shared, “It was really difficult, but it was also really fun. I think I miss that time when we were very active.”
Wheein then revealed that she often watches old MAMAMOO videos when drinking alone, which sometimes makes her emotional. While talking about those memories during the live broadcast, she eventually began crying.
She also recalled turning to comedian Kim Shin Young for advice when she was struggling the most.
According to Wheein, she once told Kim Shin Young that she was so exhausted that she wanted to stop, despite deeply loving her career and wanting to continue it for a long time.
Wheein explained, “I loved this work so much and wanted to do it for a long time, but because it was so difficult, I would say things like that.”
At the time, Kim Shin Young reportedly told her that even if she wanted to quit because things were difficult, a day would eventually come when she would miss those experiences.
Wheein admitted she could not understand that advice back then, even responding, “I don’t think I’ll feel that way.” Kim Shin Young replied, “No. You will definitely miss it.”
Years later, Wheein said she finally understands what Kim Shin Young meant.
She added that preparing an album and performing concerts with MAMAMOO again has made those emotions even stronger.
Wheein also spoke about how moving it remains to see fans filling the audience during concerts, saying she sometimes has to hold back tears while performing.
MAMAMOO, consisting of Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa, recently completed several stops of their 4WARD world tour across Asia and the United States.
The group is scheduled to continue the tour in Jakarta on September 19, with additional concerts planned in cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo.
