So Ji Sub opened up about the difficult reason he chose acting instead of continuing as an athlete.
On June 21, So Ji Sub appeared on the YouTube channel “Fairy Jae Hyung” with Yoon Kyung Ho and Choi Dae Hoon, his co stars from SBS’s new Friday Saturday drama “Manager Kim.”
During the talk, So Ji Sub looked back on his past as an athlete. He shared that he trained in swimming and water polo from elementary school until his first year of college.

He said, “When I was in school, I exercised for 7 hours, and during vacations, I exercised for more than 10 hours.” He added that those years helped build his mental strength.
So Ji Sub then shared how he first entered the entertainment industry. He said he was selected as a model for the clothing brand Storm in 1995 and made his drama debut in 1996.

He explained that he had originally applied to become a sub model for a photoshoot behind the late Kim Sung Jae. However, after Kim Sung Jae passed away, So Ji Sub and Song Seung Heon suddenly became the main models.
So Ji Sub said he later had to choose between sports and acting after being cast in a drama. He honestly shared, “At that time, my family situation was not very comfortable, so I had no choice but to choose money.”
He added that when his professor told him to choose between athletics and the entertainment industry, he packed his things and left the dorm that same day. So Ji Sub said, “I could not even think about it,” showing how urgent the decision was for him at the time.
