Jessica is facing mixed reactions after an airport video from Shanghai spread online.
On June 12, Jessica arrived in Shanghai, China, for a schedule. Many fans gathered at the airport to see her, and she moved with the help of her security guards and manager. Some fans were seen walking closely beside her while filming with their cameras.
After the videos spread on social media, some netizens claimed Jessica looked like she was covering her nose and gagging while passing through the crowd.
In the clips, she was seen frowning, covering her nose and mouth, and touching her chest, which led to different reactions online.
Some people criticized her reaction and said it looked rude, while others defended her, saying gagging can be a natural physical reaction and may not have been intentional.
Jessica later addressed the issue during a live broadcast on June 13. She explained that her reaction was not because of any smell, but because she was surprised by a young fan’s age.
She said, “A fan told me yesterday was their birthday, so I asked how old they were, and they said they were 21. I was surprised. Isn’t that so young?” She added that she asked the fan, “How do you know me?” and “Why are you here?”
Even after Jessica’s explanation, online opinions remained divided. Some accepted her clarification, while others continued to question the airport video.
Jessica debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation in 2007 and left the group in 2014. She has since continued her activities, especially in Chinese speaking regions, and recently gained attention for her special appearance on Krystal’s episode of “SNL Korea Season 8”.
