ENA’s Monday Tuesday drama ‘The Scarecrow’ is gaining strong attention as the Kangseong serial murder case becomes more mysterious.
Episode 6 of ‘The Scarecrow,’ which aired on May 5, recorded 7.4% nationwide and 7.7% in the metropolitan area. According to Nielsen Korea, the drama ranked No. 1 among all channels in its time slot based on nationwide households.
Since its premiere, ‘The Scarecrow’ has continued to break its own highest rating with every episode. Based on the average ratings of episodes 1 to 6, it has also become the highest rated ENA drama of all time.
The drama is also performing well on streaming. After its release on TVING, ‘The Scarecrow’ held the No. 1 spot on Today’s TVING Top 20 as of May 9 at 8 AM, showing strong binge watching interest.
The story follows Kang Tae Joo, played by Park Hae Soo, Cha Si Young, played by Lee Hee Joon, and Seo Ji Won, played by Kwak Sun Young, as they search for the truth behind the Kangseong serial murders. As new clues and suspects appear, the case keeps becoming harder to predict.
Kang Tae Joo first became sure that three murder cases in Kangseong were connected and done by the same person. After another murder happened, he began a full investigation and tried to secure testimony from survivor Park Ae Sook, who may have seen the culprit’s face.

The investigation then led to a trap operation, where female officers went undercover to lure the suspect. Seo Ji Won also joined the operation and managed to face the culprit, but she lost him during the chase and later collapsed.
Later, Kang Tae Joo found out that there may be another hidden victim after hearing the statement of survivor Kim Mi Yeon. Even after being removed from the investigation, he risked his resignation letter for one final search and found the body of the third victim.
The case became more personal when Kim Min Ji was found as the sixth victim. Kang Tae Joo, who had been ready to leave the police, changed his mind and told Cha Si Young, “I have to catch that man. Let’s catch him together.”
Seo Ji Won also discovered an important clue after taking a photo of the suspect during the trap operation. Although the photo was unclear, she noticed that the suspect’s handkerchief looked like one made by Kang Soon Young. This led suspicion toward Lee Ki Beom, especially after he was seen near the scene of another murder.
However, the investigation became more confusing after police found two conflicting pieces of evidence. A photo at Lee Ki Beom’s house seemed to support his alibi, while the missing handbag of survivor Park Ae Sook was found at the bookstore he ran with his older brother, Lee Ki Hwan.
Kang Tae Joo then started to suspect Lee Ki Hwan, but his blood type did not match the culprit’s. The case took another turn when Kang Tae Joo went to meet Im Seok Man, a witness who could help clear Lee Ki Beom’s name.
Instead, Im Seok Man’s limping walk and sweat soaked appearance raised new suspicions. His condition matched Kang Soon Young’s statement that the culprit had a limp, as well as the radioactive isotope test results.
With several suspects, confusing evidence, and more questions than answers, ‘The Scarecrow’ is keeping viewers fully focused on who the real culprit could be.
Episode 7 of ‘The Scarecrow’ will air on May 11 at 10 PM on ENA and will also be available on KT Genie TV and TVING.
