Netflix has officially expanded the cast of its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, adding Han So Hee, Lee Sung Min, Rain (Jung Ji Hoon), Kang You Seok, and Sung Joon alongside previously announced lead actor Byun Woo Seok.
The new casting announcement further raises expectations for the adaptation of the globally popular franchise, which began as a web novel before expanding into a webtoon, anime, and video games.
Solo Leveling follows Sung Jin Woo, an E-rank hunter who is considered one of the weakest hunters in the world. After facing a life-threatening situation, he gains an unusual ability that allows him to continuously become stronger.
Byun Woo Seok will take on the central role of Sung Jin Woo, while Han So Hee has officially been cast as Cha Hae In, one of South Korea's elite S-rank hunters. Cha Hae In is also the country's only female S-rank hunter and is known for fighting with a longsword.
Kang You Seok will play Yoo Jin Ho, the second son of a wealthy family who joins Sung Jin Woo on dungeon missions and eventually develops a close bond with him. Kang You Seok has recently appeared in Netflix's When Life Gives You Tangerines and the drama Resident Playbook.
Sung Joon has been cast as Woo Jin Chul, an A-rank hunter who works for the Hunter Association's monitoring division. His character keeps track of hunters and becomes one of the first people to question the unusual changes surrounding Sung Jin Woo.
Veteran actor Lee Sung Min and Rain will also make special appearances in the Netflix series.
Lee Sung Min will portray Go Gun Hee, the head of the Hunter Association and a retired high-level hunter responsible for overseeing hunters and guilds across South Korea.
Rain will appear as Baek Yoon Ho, an S-rank hunter and the leader of the White Tiger Guild, one of the country's major hunter organizations. His character possesses the ability to transform into a powerful beast-like form.
The production has also confirmed that director Han Dong Wook will join the project as co-director. He previously directed the series The Worst of Evil and will reunite with production companies Sanai Pictures and Kakao Entertainment for the project.
With Byun Woo Seok leading the series and Han So Hee, Kang You Seok, Sung Joon, Lee Sung Min, and Rain now officially joining the lineup, Netflix's Solo Leveling is shaping up to be one of its most high-profile Korean live-action adaptations.
