During the September 26 episode of JTBC’s "Knowing Bros", Lee Chaeyoung, who is from Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province, shared a funny story about how the tone of her hometown dialect can sometimes sound more intense to people who are unfamiliar with it.
Recalling a family trip abroad, Lee Chaeyoung explained that her uncle and grandfather were having a normal conversation in their Pohang dialect. However, people nearby apparently thought they were arguing.
*“My uncle and grandfather were talking like, ‘What are you doing?’ and things like that, but people thought they were fighting and called the police,”* she recalled.
Lee Chaeyoung shared the experience lightheartedly, explaining that there had been no actual fight and that the situation was simply a misunderstanding caused by the way her family naturally spoke.
She also recalled noticing how different her Pohang accent sounded after moving to Seoul, particularly when hearing the standard pronunciation and intonation of certain words.
The story drew laughter as Lee Chaeyoung highlighted how differences in regional accents can sometimes create unexpected misunderstandings, especially for people unfamiliar with the dialect.
