fromis_9’s Lee Chaeyoung revealed a funny misunderstanding that happened during an overseas family trip because of her family’s strong regional dialect.
During the September 26 episode of JTBC’s Knowing Bros, Lee Chaeyoung talked about growing up in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, and explained how the local accent can sometimes sound stronger or more confrontational than people expect.
She gave a casual example of how she normally speaks. If someone asks, “Did you eat?” she might respond, “What do you think I’ve been doing until this hour if I haven’t eaten?”
According to Lee Chaeyoung, the way her family speaks once caused an unexpected situation while they were traveling abroad.
“My whole family went on an overseas trip, and local people reported us, so the police came,” she recalled.
She explained that her uncle and grandfather were simply having a normal conversation, but people nearby apparently misunderstood their strong tone.
“My uncle and grandfather were just talking normally, but they thought they were fighting,” she said, turning the experience into a humorous story.
Lee Chaeyoung also recalled being surprised by the difference between her hometown accent and the way people spoke after she moved to Seoul, especially when hearing how certain café menu items were pronounced.
