Han So Hee and Choi Min Sik’s new film The Intern has maintained its strong start at the Korean box office, holding the No. 1 position for a second consecutive day.
According to Korean Film Council data released on September 18, The Intern attracted 46,155 moviegoers on September 17, bringing its total admissions to 128,721.
The film opened in theaters on September 16 and immediately claimed the top spot at the domestic box office. Its debut drew additional attention after it moved ahead of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which had previously surpassed 10 million admissions in Korea.
With The Intern remaining at No. 1 for two straight days, attention is now turning to whether the film can continue its early momentum through its opening weekend.
The Intern follows Sun Woo, played by Han So Hee, whose fashion company quickly rises in the industry just three years after launching. Her workplace begins to change when Gi Ho, played by Choi Min Sik, joins the company as a senior intern with 37 years of professional experience.
The film explores the relationship between two people from different generations and positions as they adjust to working together.
The Intern is a Korean adaptation of the Hollywood film of the same name starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.
