Han So Hee has opened up about the pressure of taking on the lead role in the Korean remake of The Intern, a character originally played by Anne Hathaway in the hit 2015 Hollywood film.
During a production presentation in Seoul on August 24, Han So Hee discussed her role as Sun Woo, the CEO of a fast-growing fashion startup in the upcoming Korean adaptation.
The actress admitted that working on a remake of such a widely known film naturally came with expectations.
Han So Hee said, “It would be a lie to say I did not feel any pressure because the original is so famous, but while filming, I tried to forget about it.”
Rather than trying to copy Anne Hathaway’s performance, Han So Hee focused on building her own version of the character. She described Sun Woo as someone who is highly driven but also has an awkward and unexpectedly imperfect side.
She explained, “Sun Woo’s charm is that she can be a little foolish. She has an awkward kind of appeal.”
Han So Hee also revealed that Choi Min Sik’s involvement strongly influenced her decision to join the project.
She shared, “When I first heard that Choi Min Sik would be doing it, I really wanted to join.”
Choi Min Sik, who plays veteran intern Ki Ho, also praised Han So Hee after working with her. He said her attitude, passion, and performance exceeded his expectations.
He commented, “Her approach to the project, her passion, and what she showed through her performance were more satisfying than I expected.”
Director Kim Do Young acknowledged that adapting such a beloved film was not easy. She explained that the remake keeps the basic framework of the original while adding Korean dialogue, emotions, and cultural details that reflect a more current perspective.
Choi Min Sik similarly stressed that the remake should have its own identity despite being based on the original.
He said, “The biggest difference is the director and the actors. It will be different.”
The Korean remake of The Intern is scheduled to arrive in theaters during the Chuseok holiday season.
