Song Kang revealed how seriously he focused on self-care and personal growth during his military service, saying he wanted to keep his career break as short as possible.
On August 21, tvN’s You Quiz on the Block shared a preview featuring Song Kang, who is making a long-awaited variety show appearance following his military discharge.
After receiving compliments about his appearance, Song Kang explained one of the habits he maintained while serving.
He said, “I wanted to minimize the feeling of a military hiatus, so I used one face mask every day while I was in the military.”
Song Kang also followed through on his plan to read more books during his service.
When Yoo Jae Suk mentioned that Song Kang had previously said he wanted to spend more time reading, the actor replied, “I really read a lot, close to 40 books.”
He recalled reading Lifespan: Why We Age—and Why We Don’t Have To, explaining, “It was difficult, so it took me about three or four months to finish.”
His reading also sparked a new interest in cooking. Song Kang said he read A Man Who Cooks Is Invincible, which inspired him to pay more attention to cooking tools and details.
He joked, “I bought a knife that cost over 1 million won, eight pots, and six cutting boards. I’m a maximalist.”
The comments showed how Song Kang used his military service not only to maintain his appearance but also to build new habits and interests before returning to entertainment activities.
Song Kang will appear on the August 26 episode of You Quiz on the Block. He is also preparing to return to acting in tvN’s upcoming drama Four Hands, which premieres on August 29.
