Hwang In Yeop has opened up about his close chemistry with Hyeri in Dream to You and the small off-screen moment that unexpectedly led to dating speculation.
During an interview following the conclusion of the ENA romantic comedy, Hwang In Yeop spoke warmly about working with Hyeri and said the two became good friends while filming.
Speaking about their time together on set, he said, “It was really good and fun. We relied on each other a lot while filming, and we also talked about how grateful we were and how we would continue supporting each other.”
He added, “We became good friends.”
Hwang In Yeop explained that having a comfortable relationship with a co-star can be especially important when filming a romantic comedy.
He shared, “I think you need to have a good relationship with your partner when filming a romantic comedy. Hyeri and I joked around a lot and became close, and I think that helped our acting chemistry.”
Their natural chemistry became strong enough that some viewers began wondering whether they could be dating in real life. Hwang In Yeop said he was aware of those reactions but viewed them positively as a sign that audiences were immersed in their characters.
He said, “Whenever I hear things like that, I feel happy. I think showing good chemistry is important because it helps viewers become more immersed in the drama.”
He again clarified their relationship by saying, “I’m thankful that people viewed us that way. Through this project, I made a good new friend.”
One particular moment that attracted attention happened when Hwang In Yeop and Hyeri attended a baseball game together. A video showed him offering Hyeri his tumbler after she appeared to struggle with spicy fish cake, leading some viewers to highlight their natural interaction.
Explaining what happened, Hwang In Yeop said, “We were eating spicy fish cake at the baseball stadium, and Hyeri seemed to find it spicy, so I simply handed her my tumbler that was sitting in front of me. I didn’t know that would become a topic of discussion.”
He said he only learned later that the moment had been captured on video.
Looking back on their chemistry, Hwang In Yeop added, “The good relationship and chemistry we built while filming naturally came across well even though it wasn’t intentional, so I’m glad.”
Hwang In Yeop and Hyeri starred together in Dream to You, where they played characters reconnecting after previously sharing an important relationship.
