Gong Hyo Jin is enjoying a strong August as her latest drama continues to climb in ratings while her new film prepares to arrive in theaters.
The actress is currently leading MBC’s Friday Saturday drama A Bona Fide Killer, her first MBC drama in 15 years. The series has steadily increased its nationwide ratings since its premiere, according to Nielsen Korea.
A Bona Fide Killer opened with 7.4 percent before rising to 8.0 percent for episode 2, 8.3 percent for episode 3, and 9.4 percent for episode 4. With each episode setting a new personal high for the drama, the series is now approaching the 10 percent mark.
Gong Hyo Jin plays Yoo Bo Na, a working mother raising a young daughter while secretly carrying a very different identity as legendary sniper Kingfisher.
The role allows her to move between everyday family life and high pressure action scenes. Her character can appear like an ordinary mother and wife at one moment before showing a much colder and more capable side during missions.
The drama has also continued revealing new sides of Yoo Bo Na through its action sequences, including precise shooting and team based missions. As the title character, Gong Hyo Jin remains at the center of the story and has become a major part of the drama’s early ratings momentum.
Her August schedule will soon extend to the big screen as well.
Gong Hyo Jin is set to appear in the film Gyeongju Travelogue, which opens on August 26. The movie follows four women from one family who set out on a revenge journey after years of waiting for answers connected to the youngest daughter, Gyeongju.
The film combines elements of revenge, family drama, and black comedy.
Gong Hyo Jin plays Jang Joo, the eldest daughter of Ok Sil, played by Lee Jung Eun. Jang Joo has long taken responsibility for helping her mother and younger siblings, even after building a family of her own.
Although she usually acts as the dependable eldest daughter, she decides to join her family when they begin their journey for the youngest sister.
Gyeongju Travelogue also marks another major film role for Gong Hyo Jin following projects including The People Upstairs, Crazy Romance, Door Lock, and Missing: Lost Woman. She will appear alongside Lee Jung Eun, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon as part of the film’s central family.
With A Bona Fide Killer nearing double digit ratings and Gyeongju Travelogue arriving in theaters later this month, attention is now on whether Gong Hyo Jin can continue her current momentum across both television and film.
