Ong Seong Wu is drawing attention for showing a very different side of himself through tvN’s Spooky in Love, where he takes on his first villain role since debut.
In the drama, Ong Seong Wu plays Kang Min Hwan, a character who appears calm and considerate on the outside while hiding complicated emotions and darker intentions.
Rather than presenting the character as simply evil, Ong Seong Wu has focused on the emotional changes behind Min Hwan’s actions. Small shifts in his expressions, gaze, and tone gradually reveal the character’s growing insecurity, loneliness, and anger.
Kang Min Hwan’s past plays an important part in understanding his behavior. After learning difficult truths about his family and experiencing emotional distance from those around him, he develops deep feelings of rejection and insecurity.
Ong Seong Wu portrays these emotions through restrained acting, showing a character who tries to remain composed even as his frustration continues to build.
His feelings toward Cheon Yeo Ri, played by Park Eun Bin, also become increasingly complicated. What begins as affection gradually develops into possessive behavior, creating a noticeable contrast between Min Hwan’s initially gentle image and the colder side he later reveals.
The tension becomes stronger as Ma Kang Wook, played by Yang Se Jong, grows closer to Yeo Ri. Min Hwan’s jealousy and anger begin to surface more clearly, allowing Ong Seong Wu to show a much more intense performance than viewers may have expected from the character’s earlier appearances.
Despite playing an antagonist, Ong Seong Wu’s performance has focused on presenting Min Hwan as a layered character shaped by emotional wounds and unhealthy choices rather than relying only on dramatic villain behavior.
With Spooky in Love marking his first official villain role, Ong Seong Wu is expanding his acting range and showing viewers a noticeably darker image than in his previous projects.
