Lee Min Jung has honestly shared her concerns about running a YouTube channel while continuing her career as an actress.
On August 4, her YouTube channel Lee Min Jung MJ released a new video featuring comedian Heo Kyung Hwan, who is known to have been her longtime fan. The two held a friendly one-on-one fan meeting and talked about her career, family, and growing online presence.
Heo Kyung Hwan praised Lee Min Jung for successfully balancing many parts of her life.
He said, “You have accomplished everything over the past decade or more. You have a son and a daughter, built a happy family after marrying one of Korea’s leading actors, and now your YouTube channel is doing well. That is not easy.”
However, Lee Min Jung explained that becoming more open with viewers can create challenges for an actor.
She said, “There are ways it can become poison for an actor. My husband and I think it is a double-edged sword.”
Lee Min Jung explained that actors need audiences to believe in the characters they play, but revealing too much of their daily lives and natural personalities may make that more difficult.
She added, “When you reveal too much of your everyday life and your real self, viewers may have trouble becoming fully immersed when you take on a certain role.”
She continued, “For an actor, it is important to be seen as the character in a project. I sometimes worry that if people know too much about how I normally behave, it could affect their immersion in the character.”
Heo Kyung Hwan, who also operates a YouTube channel, offered a different view.
He replied, “Since you have already drawn the sword, I think it would be better to use it properly, just as you are doing now.”
He added that many actors are beginning to create online content and that some may hope to build a channel as successful as Lee Min Jung’s.
Lee Min Jung married actor Lee Byung Hun in 2013. The couple has one son and one daughter.
