BLACKPINK will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its debut on August 8, marking a decade since the group first entered the music industry and began its rise as one of K-pop’s biggest global acts.

Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo debuted on August 8, 2016, with the songs Whistle and Boombayah. From the beginning, the group quickly attracted attention for its strong music, confident image, and distinctive style.

BLACKPINK later released a long list of successful songs, including DDU-DU DDU-DU, Kill This Love, Playing with Fire, Lovesick Girls, Shut Down, How You Like That, Pink Venom, As If It’s Your Last, and Forever Young.

The group expanded its popularity far beyond Asia and built a major presence in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other international markets. Their well-known line, “BLACKPINK in your area,” gradually became a reflection of the group’s growing worldwide reach.

During their first decade, BLACKPINK achieved several major milestones. They became the first girl group to record double-million-selling album figures, performed at London’s Wembley Stadium, and became the first artist in the world to surpass 100 million subscribers on YouTube.

Their second full-length album, Born Pink, also reached No. 1 on both the UK Official Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, showing the group’s strong international popularity.

After passing the often-discussed seven-year point for idol groups, BLACKPINK continued to promote under a “together and apart” system.

At the end of 2023, all four members renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for group activities. Since then, they have continued to develop their individual careers while returning for BLACKPINK projects.

The group released the digital single Jump and later returned with its third mini album, Deadline, marking its first full-group album release in three years and five months. BLACKPINK also completed a large world tour featuring 31 concerts across 16 cities.

At the same time, each member strengthened her career as a solo artist.

Jennie released her first full solo album, Ruby, and received attention from both listeners and critics. She also appeared at major festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza and became the first K-pop artist to headline two of Europe’s leading music festivals.

Rosé achieved major global success with APT. and received international recognition. She became the first K-pop artist to win Song of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards and also earned a historic win at the BRIT Awards.

Lisa and Jisoo also remained active through solo music, acting projects, brand partnerships, and international appearances.

As BLACKPINK enters its second decade, attention is now focused on what comes next for the group and its four members.

No official announcement has been made about whether BLACKPINK’s group agreement with YG Entertainment will be renewed again under the same structure. However, many industry observers expect the group to remain active because YG continues to manage the BLACKPINK name and full-group projects.

The successful completion of the Deadline tour has also increased expectations that future group activities could continue through YG Entertainment.

However, an immediate full-group comeback may not happen soon. BLACKPINK has often taken long breaks between album releases, while all four members are currently pursuing active solo schedules in music, acting, fashion, and other areas.

Even with questions surrounding the timing of their next group project, BLACKPINK’s 10-year journey shows that Jennie, Rosé, Lisa, and Jisoo can continue building separate careers while maintaining the group’s global influence.
