Park Bo Kyung wins Best Supporting Actress as husband Jin Sun Kyu cries harder and she jokes their matching trophies are a new couple item
Park Bo Kyung won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Netflix’s The Art of Sarah at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards.
The ceremony was held on July 31 at Paradise City in Incheon, with Jun Hyun Moo and Girls’ Generation’s YoonA serving as hosts.
Before walking onto the stage, Park Bo Kyung shared an emotional hug with her husband, actor Jin Sun Kyu, who was seen crying in the audience.
During her acceptance speech, Park Bo Kyung admitted that she never expected to receive the award.
She said, “I thought this might be my first and last time attending an event like this, so I was sitting closely beside Hye Sun and trying to remember everything. I did not expect to be standing on this stage.”
When she became too emotional to continue, Jin Sun Kyu playfully called out, “Get a grip.”
Park Bo Kyung replied, “I will get a grip,” before explaining how much she had always admired actors’ acceptance speeches.
She said, “I love watching award ceremonies because acceptance speeches feel more honest and meaningful than any monologue. I used to wonder whether a moment like this would ever come in my life, but I would shake my head and simply hope to receive more audition opportunities. Thank you for allowing me to give an acceptance speech today.”
The actress thanked her The Art of Sarah co-star Shin Hye Sun for helping her remain focused while filming.
She shared, “Whenever I arrived on set feeling nervous, Hye Sun looked directly into my eyes without hesitation. I am very thankful to her.”
Park Bo Kyung also dedicated the award to her mother, who continues to support her acting career.
She said, “My mother still supports the dreams of her daughter, who is now over 40, and fills the spaces I leave behind. I want to engrave my mother’s name on this trophy.”
She ended her speech with a warm and humorous message for Jin Sun Kyu, who appeared even more emotional than she was.
Park Bo Kyung said, “My husband, Jin Sun Kyu, looks more surprised than I am and is crying even more. After I lost my engagement ring, we stopped having matching couple items. Now we have matching trophies that cannot be lost. Honey, today is our first day.”
Her playful comment referred to Jin Sun Kyu’s own award trophy and created a touching moment between the couple.
