2PM looked back on the intense fitness routines and unusual advertisements that came with their powerful “beast idol” image.
On July 31, the YouTube channel Channel Fullmoon released a video featuring the members of 2PM.
During the conversation, producer Na Young Suk asked whether maintaining their physiques had ever felt difficult or stressful during the group’s earlier years.
The members immediately replied, “There were so many times.”
When asked whether they all regularly trained, Junho explained that they worked hard to build their bodies during that period.
Wooyoung recalled that gyms sometimes reopened especially for the members after their late-night schedules.
He said, “Gyms were not always open for 24 hours. They would close the shutters, but when we finished work at around 1 or 2 a.m., they would open again because we still had to exercise.”
Junho added that even after working for up to 18 or 20 hours, the members often used half of their limited resting time to train.
He explained, “Normally, we could have slept for four hours, but we would exercise for two of those hours.”
Jun. K said their public image created pressure because many advertising projects required them to show their physiques.
Junho jokingly said, “For every commercial, we had to take our clothes off. We could only sign the contract if we did.”
Jun. K continued the joke, saying, “The payment only came in after we took our clothes off.”
The members explained that showing their bodies made sense for underwear and water park advertisements. However, one unexpected project was a commercial for brownies.
When Na Young Suk asked why they needed to show their bodies for a chocolate snack, Taecyeon replied, “Because we had chocolate abs.”
Jun. K praised the concept, saying, “That idea was a work of art.”
Junho added with amusement, “That kind of advertisement probably could not be made these days.”
The lighthearted conversation showed how 2PM’s muscular image influenced not only their performances but also the types of advertisements they filmed during their early career.
