Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo have officially been confirmed as the lead stars of tvN’s upcoming drama The Reason I Decided to Die.
Based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name by YUJU, the drama follows Cha Gyeol, a young man trapped in a repeating timeline while trying to save the woman he loves. Nam Ji Oh, meanwhile, fights against fate to protect his life.
The series will combine youth romance, first love, personal growth, and a time loop story. It is expected to focus on the emotional journey of two young people who risk everything to protect each other.
Lee Chae Min will play Cha Gyeol, a mysterious young man who repeatedly faces death and returns to the past to save Nam Ji Oh. Although he can be caring, he sometimes suddenly becomes distant, making it difficult for others to understand his true feelings.
After living with painful memories from his childhood, Cha Gyeol begins to imagine a happier future when he meets Nam Ji Oh. However, an unexpected event causes him to return to the same spring repeatedly.
Roh Yoon Seo will play Nam Ji Oh, a promising taekwondo athlete who dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal. Despite financial difficulties, she remains positive and continues working toward her goal with determination.
Nam Ji Oh is known for her bright personality and strong sense of responsibility. However, an unexpected injury threatens her dream before her meeting with Cha Gyeol leads to a major change in her life.
The drama marks Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo’s first reunion in around three years following Crash Course in Romance. This time, they will portray two people willing to cross the boundary between life and death for each other.
The production team stated, “The Reason I Decided to Die tells the story of two young people who try to protect each other across time.”
They added, “Please look forward to the detailed emotional performances and special chemistry that Lee Chae Min and Roh Yoon Seo will show.”
Directors Choi Jung Kyu, known for The Haunted Palace and The Devil Judge, and Kim Hee Won, known for Vincenzo, Little Women, and Queen of Tears, will work together on the project. The screenplay will be written by Kim Sol Ji, whose previous works include Pegasus Market and Love Is for Suckers.
The Reason I Decided to Die is scheduled to premiere on tvN in 2027.
