RESCENE members Woni and Minami shared the unusual story of how they were personally recruited by the head of their agency before their debut.
On July 28, the two members appeared as guests on the YouTube variety show Salon Drip 2. During the episode, host Jang Do Yeon asked about reports that the agency’s CEO had personally approached and recruited the members.
Woni explained that the company was extremely small when she first joined.
“When I first came to the company, there were fewer than ten employees. The MUSE Entertainment was started by only three people,” she recalled.
When Jang Do Yeon asked what convinced her to trust such a small agency, Woni jokingly replied, “I was fooled by the CEO’s words. He kept saying sweet things to me.”
She explained that she was still thankful because the CEO had personally reached out and recognized her potential as a singer.
“It felt like he saw something in me and came to find me himself. I was grateful that he said I had talent, but he continued making very attractive promises,” Woni said.
According to Woni, the CEO’s most memorable promise was, “I’ll make you successful, no matter what.”
Minami then added with a laugh, “He told me, ‘I’ll make you like BLACKPINK.’ When I said I liked BTS, he also said, ‘I’ll make you like BTS.’”
Although the comments were shared in a casual and humorous way, the members explained that joining the newly established agency was a serious decision. Woni said her parents initially opposed the idea because the company was smaller than most independent entertainment agencies.
“I had learned about smaller agencies while attending auditions, but this company was so small that it was difficult to even describe it that way. I could feel the CEO’s passion, but it was hard to explain that feeling to my parents,” she said.
The CEO eventually visited Woni’s parents in person and asked them to trust him.
Woni also recalled how he tried to make her family feel safe before her audition. After offering to buy her a meal, he promised her mother, “Whether we go to a café or eat somewhere, I’ll take a selfie at every location and send it to you.”
Jang Do Yeon commented that the CEO had made a strong effort to earn the family’s trust.
Woni agreed and explained that her parents may have been moved by his sincerity and determination at a young age.
The story gave viewers a closer look at RESCENE’s early days and the personal efforts made by their agency before the group officially entered the K-pop industry.
