Jeon Somi opened up about the mixed reactions to I.O.I’s new song “Suddenly” on MBC’s “The Manager”.
On the June 13 broadcast, the show revealed behind the scenes moments from I.O.I’s 10th anniversary concert. During the episode, the members celebrated after “Suddenly” ranked No. 1 on the day of the concert.
Song Eun Yi carefully brought up the early reactions to the song and asked if Jeon Somi felt hurt, since she helped write and compose it.
Jeon Somi honestly replied, “I thought people could become fans of this song or they might not, but I was sure it would be addictive”.
She added, “When there were mixed reactions, I was actually worried that the older members might be shaken”.
Lim Na Young then responded, “We were actually worried about you,” showing the members’ warm bond.
Kim Se Jeong also shared how the members first heard the song. She said Somi played it during their first meeting for the 10th anniversary album, and everyone immediately liked it. She recalled, “We all said, ‘It is so good,’ and sang along.”
Jeon Somi then surprised everyone by saying, “That was my way of appealing to you.”
Kim Do Yeon revealed that “Suddenly” was not originally planned as the title track. She explained that there was another song, but the members felt “Suddenly” was more friendly and suitable for fans. The staff also agreed unanimously.
The episode also showed emotional scenes from I.O.I’s long awaited concert, where the group stood on stage together 9 years after disbanding.
Their first manager was moved to tears and later told the members, “I hope I can be your manager again next time. I want to see you healthy for a long, long time. Thank you.”
I.O.I reunited for their 10th debut anniversary and released “Suddenly,” which continues to receive love from fans.
