Lee Sang Yi proved his strong presence through his special appearance in TVING’s original series “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier”.
In the drama, Lee Sang Yi played Captain Hwang Seok Ho, the commander of the 4th Company. Although he appeared as a special cast member, he filled the story with humor, warmth, and charisma, making viewers say his role felt more than just a simple cameo.
Hwang Seok Ho first brought laughter with his bright and dramatic personality. After his company received an award as the best company in KCTC training, he became emotional and said, “There are days like this in life.” His lively expressions and thankful reactions showed the funny but lovable side of the character.
The character also gave viewers many comedic moments, including scenes where he tried to communicate through Morse code while both of his arms were in casts. His sudden emotional changes, from feeling extremely happy after a call from the battalion commander to quickly becoming disappointed, added more humor to the series.
However, Lee Sang Yi also showed the sincere side of Hwang Seok Ho. In one scene, when Kang Sung Jae, played by Park Ji Hoon, was in danger, Hwang Seok Ho immediately stepped in to protect him. His lines, “I am Hwang Seok Ho. If I can protect my company members, I will not fall even if all my limbs are broken,” and “Just trust your company commander,” left a strong impression.
He also showed the character’s deep responsibility with the line, “I promised that no one would get hurt, but it is not easy.” Through this, viewers could feel how much Hwang Seok Ho cared for his soldiers.
Lee Sang Yi also helped carry the story in episodes 7 and 8 as Hwang Seok Ho faced a difficult situation involving a food shortage and growing tension among the soldiers. His conflict with Sergeant Park Jae Young, played by Yoon Kyung Ho, added more intensity to the drama without taking away from its main message.
By balancing comedy, emotion, and leadership, Lee Sang Yi showed why he was a strong choice for the role. Even as a special appearance, he left a memorable impact and proved his irreplaceable presence in “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier”.
Meanwhile, Lee Sang Yi is set to appear on Mnet’s “M Countdown” on June 11, where he will perform “My Flavor” with Migak Boys.
