The highly anticipated drama “Signal” Season 2 created to celebrate tvN’s 20th anniversary, is now re-evaluating its release schedule and future plans following controversy surrounding lead actor Jo Jin Woong.

On December 19, a representative for the drama told Sports Hankook, “This project was carefully prepared with the goal of releasing it in the summer of 2026, carrying the feelings of viewers who have waited for 10 years.”

They added, “We deeply understand the disappointment and concern of viewers in the current situation, and we feel heavy and saddened by it.” They continued, “To protect the value of Signal, even if it takes more time, we will do our best to find the best solution for the project and for the viewers.”

“Signal” Season 2 is a sequel to the hit 2016 drama “Signal,” which became a nationwide phenomenon when it aired. It was originally expected to premiere in the first half of next year and marked Jo Jin Woong’s highly anticipated return.

The drama is a flagship project for tvN’s 20th anniversary, produced by major companies like Studio Dragon, with even discussions of a simultaneous broadcast in China due to high expectations.

However, plans were shaken when Jo Jin Woong became involved in controversies related to past incidents during his high school years and assault allegations, followed by his announcement of retirement from the entertainment industry.

These developments have raised uncertainty over whether he will continue as lead and when the drama will air, with some experts warning that it could impact tvN’s overall drama lineup.

Despite the controversy, the production team emphasized their commitment to maintaining the drama’s quality and brand value. Fans are now closely watching to see how “Signal” Season 2 will navigate the situation and return to viewers.

Official statement from the production team:

“Signal” Season 2 is a project we have carefully prepared with the goal of a summer 2026 release, carrying our gratitude toward viewers who have waited for 10 years. We deeply understand the disappointment and concern of viewers in the current situation, and we feel heavy and saddened.
