The tvN weekend drama Pro Bono continues to move viewers with its heartfelt storytelling, reaching a peak rating of 9.4% for episode 4 on Nielsen Korea (paid platform, metropolitan households).

Written by Moon Yoo Seok and directed by Kim Sung Yoon, the series follows the journey of public interest lawyers, exploring various cases while reflecting the realities of socially vulnerable groups. Its emotional scenes and meaningful dialogue have left a lasting impression on audiences.

One standout moment came in episode 3, when Park Ki Ppeum (So Ju Yeon) questions, “Why must good intentions be proven, but selfishness is assumed?” while debating whether to take a lawsuit filed by a boy born with congenital paralysis of the legs, Kim Kang Hoon (Lee Cheon Moo). Moon Yoo Seok explained, “Most real public interest lawyers work with the same heart as Park Ki Ppeum. Their struggles naturally led to this line.”

The episode also highlighted the judgment of a visually impaired first trial judge, who ruled against the claim, saying, “To recognize damages, one would have to conclude it would have been better if a child’s life did not exist.” Moon Yoo Seok shared, “The judge was set as visually impaired to show empathy with the pain caused by disability, while emphasizing that nothing is more important than life itself.”

Episode 4 delivered a warm resolution when Woong San Group chairman Choi Woong San (Yoo Jae Myung) decided to adopt Jung So Min as his daughter and welcome Kim Kang Hoon as a grandson. He also promised to establish a special school for Kang Hoon, showing that hope and new beginnings are possible even in difficult circumstances.

Moon Yoo Seok commented on the emotional impact, saying, “It is essentially a story about people with wounds saving each other. The cases are realistic, but I wanted them to become a memory that gives hope. People can make life hard, but they can also be the reason for hope.”

He also teased upcoming episodes, saying, “Episodes 5 and 6 will feature stories that deeply moved the cast to tears. Please look forward to them.”

With strong ratings and a mix of emotional storytelling and social reflection, Pro Bono continues to capture hearts and prove why it is one of tvN’s most talked-about weekend dramas.
