On September 10, Karina appeared on the YouTube show Hyo’s Level Up: Bapsahyo 2, hosted by Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon. The two idols had a candid talk about Karina’s trainee days and aespa’s image.
When Karina shared that she was once a huge Girls’ Generation fan, Hyoyeon jokingly told her,
“If you dreamed of being in a group like Girls’ Generation and joined SM for that, then honestly, I think you were kind of tricked."
She added, "Girls’ Generation wasn’t about being fierce, right? They had a softer, girlish style. What kind of group did you originally imagine?”
Karina explained her expectations versus reality, saying, “I thought if I did a strong concept, it would be like Girls’ Generation’s Run Devil Run. If it was cute, then like Kissing You. "
She added, "But when I joined, they told me to copy TVXQ’s Why (Keep Your Head Down) or SHINee’s Everybody choreography. So I was like, ‘Oh? This isn’t really my style..’”
Hyoyeon reacted with surprise, replying, “Wow, you went through really strong training. Usually, girls are told to copy girl group choreographies. Maybe they already had a certain picture of you back then.”
Karina’s candid story is now gaining attention online, as fans discuss how aespa’s unique concept shaped her journey from trainee to star.
