Harin opens up about being cut from NewJeans before debut and why she still supports them

Japanese model and actress Harin has spoken up to clear misunderstandings after revealing she was cut from NewJeans’ debut lineup just before their official debut.

In July, Harin appeared on Japanese actor Takeda Hiromitsu’s YouTube channel Gochu Wasabi for the series Hajime Masitdae. There, she shared her trainee story, revealing that after two years of intense training, she received a sudden notice that her contract was being terminated right before debut.

“As a trainee, I went through so many hard times,” Harin recalled. “For two years, I trained from morning until night without sleep. I was so happy when I signed an exclusive contract. My parents signed too, and the CEO told us, ‘You will debut. Let’s work hard.’"

She continued, "But one day, I was suddenly told my contract was terminated — just me. It was really hard. I knew trainees often drop out, but since this was right before debut, it was really tough and shocking."

She added, "I wanted to say goodbye to the CEO, but I wasn’t allowed. I also couldn’t see the members before returning to Japan. It felt like being cut off from people I truly trusted. Since I was younger then, it was even harder to handle.”

After her story spread online, Harin took to her personal channel to clarify, saying, “I’m thankful for the sudden interest, but I’m also a little worried. What I said in the interview was just about my personal feelings of disappointment and frustration at that time — not an attack or exposé against any company or person.”

She continued, “It was a difficult time, but it was also an experience that made me stronger. I still support the members I laughed and cried with during that time. I’ll work hard to improve and show you a better side of me in the future.”
