
Actor Lee Jong Hyuk has expressed his deep sorrow following the sudden passing of fellow actor Song Young Gyu, sharing an emotional tribute that’s touching fans across the nation.
On August 5, Lee Jong Hyuk took to his personal social media to post a photo of Song Young Gyu’s funeral altar. Along with the image, he wrote a message full of grief and disbelief:
“It feels so empty. Did you really hate this world that much?”
He continued, “I’m disappointed that you were so weak. I really didn’t expect you to do this. You used to care for me so much… Rest well. Senior from Seoul Institute of the Arts, Theater Class of ’89. You said you were good at golf but still lost to me. We were supposed to play again. You promised…”
Fans were moved by the raw honesty in his words, showing the close bond the two actors shared.
Song Young Gyu was reportedly found unconscious inside a car at a townhouse in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, around 8 AM on August 4. According to reports, an acquaintance discovered him and immediately alerted the police. The Yongin Eastern Police Station later confirmed his passing and is continuing the investigation.
Just two months ago, in June 2025, Song Young Gyu had been involved in a drunk driving incident, which led to his removal from the drama he was appearing in.
His funeral altar has been set up in Room 1 of the special hall at Dabos Hospital Funeral Home in Yongin, with his wife and two daughters named as chief mourners. The funeral will be held on August 6 at 7:30 AM, and he will be laid to rest at Hambaeksan Memorial Park.
