The cast of Mary Kills People is already making waves ahead of the premiere—and it’s not just because of the story.

Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, and Kang Ki Young, the lead actors of MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama Mary Kills People, impressed fans with a powerful black-and-white pictorial for Cine21 magazine, capturing intense emotion and drama even before the first episode airs.

The highly anticipated drama is set to premiere on August 1 at 10 PM KST. It tells the emotional and controversial story of a doctor who assists terminally ill patients with ending their lives, and the detective who tries to uncover the truth behind it. The show promises deep themes, emotional tension, and bold storytelling.

In the Cine21 shoot, the three actors brought the drama’s themes of life, death, and difficult choices to life through striking black-and-white visuals. With strong poses and expressive gazes, they showed off the deep chemistry and layered emotions their characters will face.

On the magazine cover, the trio stood in a dramatic triangular pose. Lee Bo Young took center stage as Woo So Jung, a determined emergency doctor who carries the heavy responsibility of helping patients through assisted death. Dressed in all white with slicked-back hair and bold red lips, she gave off both strength and sorrow.

Lee Min Ki, playing Jo Hyun Woo, wore beige tones to reflect his character’s pain and quiet desperation as a terminal cancer patient with no more treatment options. His emotional expression showed a man on the edge, preparing to make one final, personal decision.

Meanwhile, Kang Ki Young portrayed Choi Dae Hyun, a calm and caring figure who supports Woo So Jung in her work. In a white suit and soft gaze, he brought warmth and quiet strength to the photoshoot.

In another group shot, Lee Bo Young and Kang Ki Young stood united in matching white, symbolizing their partnership in handling assisted death. Lee Min Ki’s intense stare at Lee Bo Young added a layer of emotional tension that reflects what’s to come in the drama.

A second set of photos showed even more of the drama’s mood. Using a simple table as a prop, the trio expressed silence, stillness, and the emotional weight of their roles. Lee Bo Young’s long hair and soft gaze gave off calm confidence. Lee Min Ki’s navy-and-white outfit added depth, while Kang Ki Young completed a sharp and thoughtful look.

Mary Kills People reunites talented names behind the scenes as well. Director Park Joon Woo, known for Taxi Driver and Crash, teams up with writer Lee Soo Ah, praised for her honest and emotional storytelling in Venus Talk and Inseparable Bros. The drama’s star-studded cast also includes Baek Hyun Jin, Kwon Hae Hyo, Yoon Ga Yi, Kim Tae Woo, Yoo Seung Mok, and Seo Young Hee.

The production team shared,

“Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, and Kang Ki Young captured the message of Mary Kills People perfectly through this pictorial. We hope viewers look forward to the powerful performances waiting in the first episode.”

Fans can catch the emotional and gripping new drama when it premieres Friday, August 1 at 10 PM KST on MBC.
