Kim Ye Rim, known to many fans as Red Velvet’s Yeri, is making her big screen debut — and it’s not in a lighthearted role. She’s jumping straight into the world of horror with the teen thriller Kang Ryeong: Spirit Game.
The upcoming movie had its world premiere on July 5 at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, gaining early buzz and marking a bold new chapter in Kim Ye Rim’s career — as a full-fledged actress.
Kang Ryeong: Spirit Game is a chilling teen horror story that follows Ja Young (played by Kim Ye Rim) and her classmates. It all starts when they film a fake “spirit-summoning” video for a contest. But things take a terrifying turn when they actually perform a real ritual out of curiosity… and awaken something they weren’t ready for.
In the film, Kim Ye Rim plays Ja Young, the calm and sharp class president of Year 3, Class 5 at Gyesang High School. When her classmate Ki Ho suggests making the ritual video and others hesitate, Ja Young is the first to boldly step forward — dragging everyone into a nightmare.
While this is her first official movie, Kim Ye Rim has been slowly building her acting career. She appeared in tvN Drama Stage 2021 – Mint Condition and the KBS 1TV drama Applause in 2023. But it was her role as Baek Jae Na in Cheongdam International High School that really got people talking. Her performance as a glamorous but emotionally broken teen left a lasting impression on both local and international viewers.
Now, she’s back in Cheongdam International High School 2, released on July 3 through Netflix, TVING, and Wavve in over 190 countries. In this new season, she brings an even deeper, more intense portrayal of Baek Jae Na, earning praise for her emotional acting and growth as an actress.
