The wait is almost over for one of Netflix's biggest Korean drama productions, as Song Hye Kyo and Gong Yoo's highly anticipated series Tantara has officially confirmed its release date.

Netflix announced that the upcoming period drama will premiere worldwide on December 11, 2026, bringing together two of South Korea's biggest stars in a project reportedly produced with a massive budget of 80 billion won (approximately $56 million).

The announcement has drawn attention not only because of its star-studded cast but also because of the reported production cost, making it one of the most expensive Korean drama projects.

Tantara is set against the Korean entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, a period when people faced difficult working conditions while chasing opportunities for success.

The story follows individuals who begin with very little but work their way into the music business, hoping to build better lives despite the challenges around them.

Song Hye Kyo plays Min Ja, a woman who grows up in poverty and eventually enters the music industry. Gong Yoo portrays Dong Gu, her childhood friend who stays by her side and supports her ambitions.

The drama also stars Seolhyun as Min Hee, an ambitious woman determined to succeed on her own terms, and Cha Seung Won as Seok Gil Yeo, a successful composer known for turning new singers into stars.

Additional cast members include Lee Ha Nee and Na Moon Hee, adding more experienced actors to the large-scale production.

Along with the release date announcement, Netflix unveiled a new poster featuring a turntable surrounded by scenes representing the characters' lives and their journey through the entertainment industry.

The newly revealed promotional material offers a glimpse of the drama's historical setting, music-centered storyline, and the struggles faced by its characters without revealing major plot developments.

Another major reason for the attention surrounding the project is the creative team behind it.

The series is written by Noh Hee Kyung, known for her emotional and character-driven dramas, and directed by Lee Yoon Jung.

Their collaboration, combined with the reported 80 billion won production budget, has raised expectations for the drama's storytelling, period details, and overall production quality.

The project also marks the first time Song Hye Kyo and Gong Yoo will appear together as leading actors in a drama.

For Song Hye Kyo, the series follows her appearance in the film Dark Nuns. It will also be her first released acting project since moving to a new agency after ending her long partnership with UAA.

Meanwhile, Gong Yoo returns with another Netflix series following his appearances in The Trunk and Squid Game 2.

With its large reported budget, well-known cast, and experienced production team, Tantara is shaping up to be one of Netflix's most anticipated Korean drama releases of the year.

The series is officially scheduled to premiere worldwide on Netflix on December 11, 2026.
