SM Entertainment has shared an official update on its legal actions to protect NCT member Jisung, revealing that a court has imposed a 5 million KRW fine on an individual accused of repeatedly posting defamatory and insulting content about the singer.
On October 19, the agency released a statement detailing the progress of several legal cases involving online harassment, defamation, and other alleged violations of Jisung's rights.
According to SM Entertainment, the case involved an individual who repeatedly uploaded posts and videos targeting Jisung on online platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.
The agency explained that a court of first instance found the defendant guilty of violating South Korea's Information and Communications Network Act through defamation, as well as committing criminal insult.
The court reportedly considered the repeated nature of the conduct, which began in 2022, when reaching its decision.
As a result, the defendant was sentenced to a fine of 5 million KRW. However, the ruling is not yet final, as the defendant has filed an appeal and a decision from the appellate court is pending.
SM Entertainment stated that it will provide further updates as the case progresses.
Meanwhile, the agency also revealed that it had recently filed a separate criminal complaint against another individual accused of creating and distributing 462 online posts targeting Jisung.
The complaint includes allegations involving violations of the Information and Communications Network Act, insult, and threats.
According to the agency, the case is currently under police investigation. No final legal determination has been announced regarding these allegations.
SM Entertainment also disclosed that it had filed complaints against individuals accused of engaging in conduct that caused Jisung fear or anxiety. These complaints involve alleged violations of laws concerning online communications, stalking, and sexual violence.
The agency emphasized that it continues to collect evidence of false information, defamatory statements, insults, and personal attacks across platforms such as X, YouTube, and SpinSpin.
In its official statement, SM Entertainment reaffirmed its strict legal policy, saying:
"We will continue to collect evidence of false information, defamation, insults, malicious criticism, and personal attacks occurring across various platforms."
The agency also stressed that it would maintain a zero-tolerance approach without settlements or leniency.
Regarding individuals who continue such conduct even after receiving legal penalties or court rulings, SM Entertainment stated:
"We will thoroughly track any further violations and file additional complaints."
The company added that it intends to pursue available legal measures until the alleged harmful conduct stops.
SM Entertainment also thanked fans for their patience, explaining that it had previously limited detailed updates to avoid affecting ongoing investigations and court proceedings.
The agency concluded by promising to continue protecting the rights and interests of its artists through appropriate legal action.
With the 5 million KRW fine now under appeal and the separate complaint involving 462 posts still under investigation, SM Entertainment has made clear that its legal efforts concerning NCT Jisung remain ongoing.
