Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin are reuniting on screen for the first time in 10 years with MBC’s upcoming psychological thriller The Perfect Lie.
The two actors previously starred together in the first season of Dr. Romantic in 2016 as Kang Dong Joo and Yoon Seo Jung. That drama ended with a nationwide rating of 27.6% for its finale and also earned the pair a Best Couple award at the SBS Drama Awards.
The 27.6% figure refers to Dr. Romantic, not Liar, which has not yet premiered.
A decade after their popular medical drama pairing, Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin are returning with a very different relationship.
Liar follows two people who remember the same incident in completely different ways and become caught in a tense conflict over what actually happened.
Yoo Yeon Seok plays Min Joon Ho, a heart surgeon raising his son alone, while Seo Hyun Jin plays Kang Ji Sun, his son’s teacher. Their relationship begins with a seemingly promising first date before an incident puts their conflicting memories at the center of the story.
The drama’s main poster highlights the mystery with the line, *“You’re the one who lied.”*
Yoo Yeon Seok said he was interested in the project because of the way the story questions trust and doubt.
He explained, *“I found it interesting that two people clash over the same incident while the story closely follows what makes us believe or doubt someone.”*
He also described Min Joon Ho as difficult to read, saying, *“He is gentle and kind, but he rarely reveals what he is really thinking. The biggest appeal is that you cannot easily decide which side of him is real.”*
A teaser further shows the tension between the two leads. Seo Hyun Jin’s character says, *“It’s all a lie,”* while Yoo Yeon Seok’s character responds, *“I have never lied.”*
The production team said the drama will continue asking viewers which of the two main characters is telling the truth.
Directed by Jo Young Min, known for *Do You Like Brahms?* and *The Interest of Love*, Liar will premiere on MBC on October 30 at 9:50 PM KST.
