Lee Jong Suk has opened up about why he decided to play Prince Heinrey in Disney+’s upcoming fantasy romance "The Remarried Empress", despite initially feeling uncertain about the unfamiliar world and tone.
During a GV event for the series at the 31st Busan International Film Festival on October 9, Lee Jong Suk said one reason he accepted the role was because he saw it as a special opportunity for fans.
He explained, *“I thought it could be a big piece of fan service. I also wondered if I would ever get another chance to play a prince like this.”*
However, the actor admitted that the fantasy setting initially made him feel unsure about how naturally he could approach the character.
Lee Jong Suk said, *“Because it is a fantasy genre, I thought it might feel unfamiliar.”*
His confidence began to grow during his first shoot with Lee Se Young, who plays Rashta.
He recalled, *“My first filming was with Rashta, and when I saw how deeply the other actor was already immersed in the character, I thought, ‘Maybe I don’t have to feel so embarrassed about this.’”*
That experience helped him become more comfortable with the project. Lee Jong Suk said that after seeing how his co-stars approached their roles, he was able to settle into Heinrey and focus on building the character together with the rest of the cast.
He also explained that he paid close attention to the acting tone around him when delivering dialogue from the fantasy setting.
Lee Jong Suk said, *“I thought a lot about how to deliver the lines as naturally and simply as possible. As I watched the tone the other actors were using, I gradually became more confident in my own performance.”*
The actor also spoke about Heinrey’s bird companion, Queen, which was created with visual effects. Since he could not see the finished character during filming, he said he relied heavily on the production team and was pleased when he finally saw the completed result.
*The Remarried Empress* stars Shin Min Ah as Navier, Ju Ji Hoon as Sovieshu, Lee Jong Suk as Heinrey, and Lee Se Young as Rashta.
For Lee Jong Suk, taking the role ultimately came down to both the rare chance to play a prince and the confidence he gained from watching his co-stars fully embrace the fantasy world around him.
