Son Suk Ku has revealed that he went through a major physical transformation for his role in Netflix’s upcoming series Blue Road.
During an open talk for the drama at the 31st Busan International Film Festival on October 9, Son Suk Ku shared how he changed his appearance to better match his character.
The actor plays a Korean detective in Blue Road, a crime thriller about Korean and Japanese investigators who become connected through a series of disturbing murder cases.
Son Suk Ku explained that filming began less than two months after he completed another project, *Bedford Park*. At the time, he said his weight was around 80 to 90 kilograms.
He recalled, *“I lost a lot of weight. I had finished filming Bedford Park less than two months before starting Blue Road. At first, I was around 80 to 90 kilograms, but the director told me I needed to lose more.”*
Son Suk Ku said he ultimately dropped a significant amount of weight for the role.
He added, *“So I lost quite a lot. I made a physical change and spent a lot of time studying how to build the character.”*
Director Han Jun Hee responded with a laugh, saying he was satisfied with how the transformation appeared on screen, while also jokingly apologizing to the actor.
The physical change was part of Son Suk Ku’s broader preparation for the character, which also included developing a retro-inspired look to reflect the series’ early-2000s setting.
Blue Road is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on November 20.
