The Assassin(s) has continued its strong box office run, returning to No. 1 in South Korea as its cumulative audience surpassed 2.23 million moviegoers.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated box office data, the film attracted 188,468 viewers on October 4, taking the top position at the daily box office. Its total admissions have now reached 2,233,963.

The latest figure extends the film’s momentum after recently crossing the 2 million audience mark.

Japanese animated film Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, which previously held the top spot, moved down to No. 2 with 141,155 admissions for the day and a cumulative audience of 604,764.

Tazza: Song of Beelzebub ranked third with 128,717 moviegoers, bringing its total admissions to 1,365,648 despite carrying a restricted age rating.

The continued box office success of The Assassin(s) comes amid controversy surrounding its fictional treatment of historical events. Some critics and political groups have accused the film of distorting history, while the production team has maintained that the movie combines historical records with fictional storytelling and does not present its dramatic theories as established fact.

The controversy has also extended beyond criticism of the film itself. A protest was recently held near lead actor Yoo Hae Jin’s home, while his agency has announced plans to respond to alleged false information, personal attacks, privacy violations, and threats against the actor.

Several promotional appearances involving director Hur Jin Ho and cast members Yoo Hae Jin, Park Hae Il, and Lee Min Ho were also canceled over safety concerns.

Despite the ongoing debate, The Assassin(s) has maintained strong theatrical attendance and currently stands at more than 2.23 million admissions while holding the No. 1 position at the Korean box office.
