Stray Kids have reportedly decided not to submit their music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, following an earlier decision by BTS to also sit out the upcoming ceremony.

According to reports from Billboard and the BBC, JYP Entertainment confirmed that Stray Kids did not submit music for the 69th Grammy Awards.

On October 4, JYP Entertainment also confirmed to Korean media, “It is true that they did not submit.”

However, the agency did not explain why Stray Kids chose not to participate. Because of this, it has not been confirmed that the group's decision was connected to the Recording Academy's controversial new Asian pop category.

The Recording Academy announced in June that it would introduce Best Asian Pop Music Performance beginning with the 2027 Grammy Awards. The category is intended to recognize popular music from Asian markets, including South Korea, China, and Japan.

The decision received mixed reactions. While some welcomed greater recognition for Asian artists, others questioned whether creating a separate category could potentially separate K-pop and other Asian music from existing major Grammy categories despite their growing global presence.

BTS previously announced on July 29 that they would not submit music for the 2027 Grammys. At the time, the group expressed the view that music should be heard and appreciated for the music itself rather than being divided by region or language.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. later confirmed that the new Asian pop category would remain in place for the 2027 ceremony, saying that support from members of the music industry outweighed the objections.

Stray Kids' non-submission became known shortly after that decision was reaffirmed. The BBC noted that the absence of another major K-pop act could be a significant setback for the Recording Academy.

Still, unlike BTS, Stray Kids and JYP Entertainment have not publicly connected their decision to the new Grammy category, leaving the exact reason behind their non-submission undisclosed.
