Kim So Hyun revealed that Choo Young Woo is the first same-age acting partner she has worked with since making her debut 18 years ago.
The two actors, who were both born in 1999, star together in ENA’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama *Love Doctor*.
During the drama’s press conference on October 2, Kim So Hyun spoke about how unusual the experience felt after spending most of her career working opposite actors of different ages.
She said, *“This is also my first time having a co-star who is the same age as me.”*
Despite being the same age, the two did not immediately become casual with each other. Kim So Hyun explained that their characters initially maintain some distance, which also influenced their relationship during filming.
She said, *“If we had met simply as friends, we probably would have been more comfortable, but I think we built our chemistry while relying on each other.”*
When asked when she especially felt that Choo Young Woo was her age, Kim So Hyun pointed to how easily they could talk about current trends.
She explained, *“Choo Young Woo knows trendy things well. When we talked about Instagram, I felt like our conversations flowed easily.”*
Choo Young Woo also shared that he initially used formal speech with Kim So Hyun despite being the same age because she has much more acting experience.
He said, *“She is the same age as me, but she is a much more senior actor, so I learned a lot from her.”*
He added that they became closer during the second half of filming and now speak casually with each other.
Kim So Hyun debuted in 2008 as a child actress, making her pairing with Choo Young Woo a rare first in her long career.
*Love Doctor* follows graduate students Park Min Jae, played by Choo Young Woo, and Im Yoo Jin, played by Kim So Hyun, as their relationship develops while working in a robotics laboratory.
The drama premieres October 5 at 10 p.m. KST on ENA.
